간략소개
MBC에서 1992년 10월부터 1993년 5월까지 방송된 주말 드라마.
남아선호사상에 정면으로 문제를 제기한 최초의 드라마이다. 더불어 남아선호사상과 가부장제하에서 직접적으로 차별받는 여성뿐 아니라 남자다움을 강요받는 남성도 결국 피해자라는 사실을 보여주려 했다고. 이 의도는 부모의 지나친 관심과 기대에 부응하지 못하는 귀남의 고민과 방황에서 드러난다고 볼 수 있었으며, 당시 60%에 육박하는 높은 시청율과 함께 많은 이들에게 공감을 불러 일으켰다.
당초 50부작으로 기획됐지만 인기에 힘입어 64부작으로 연장되었는데 그 이후 스토리의 긴장감이 조금 떨어지며 잠시 주춤하기도 했지만 후남이 소설가로 성공하고 가족들과 화해하는 감동적인 결말에 이르러 다시 60%대로 시청률이 상승했다.
